‘Wings Global Foundation’ Environment protection campaign 2009 -10 that is being organized with the support of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is a laudable initiative.

Saving and preserving the Environment is a global concern today and we must find ways to deal with its adverse effects together. It requires urgent and collective initiatives. Time is of essence and the attempts must start now if we are to reap the fruits of our joint efforts.

SABMiller is globally committed to protecting the environment and is working towards reducing energy and carbon footprints, and saving water among other things. Conservation of water resources is one critical element of our commitment within our sustainable development framework and our various initiatives demonstrate that.   These include saving rain forests in Honduras, providing access to clean water to disadvantaged communities in Mozambique, protecting the basin that provides water to the capital city Bogotá in Columbia. Other efforts include protecting the river Ruaha in Tanzania and addressing the issue of resource scarcity in some water stressed countries such as Peru, Tanzania, South Africa and Ukraine.
 
Similar efforts are underway in India as well. We have undertaken significant measures to reduce and recycle water at all our breweries.  Externally, we have embarked upon recharge initiatives such as construction of check dams in parts of Rajasthan and Orissa.  In Medak District in Andhra Pradesh we have started watershed management activities that include conservation of water, improving the quality of water and water use efficiency of the surrounding communities and its quality.

Much more however needs to be done by all of us! Both as an organization and as individuals we have a responsibility to ourselves and the community at large to try and make a difference. We welcome the efforts of NGO’s like ‘Wings Global Foundation’ and are happy to support them in their endeavors.
