SABMiller India takes a step to educate youth about HIV/AIDS and Responsible Drinking

Like last year, this year too SABMiller India partnered with Management Development Institute (MDI) to create awareness among the youth and educate them about HIV/AIDS and responsible drinking. Colleges in the Delhi & NCR region were invited to participate in a street play competition, "Nukkad Natak' organised as a part of MDI's three day annual cultural festival, Imperium 2010.

Guru Gobind Singh College stood as an overall winner among all participants – Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College, Hindu College, Hansraj College, Kamla Nehru College and NSIT.

Sundeep Kumar, Director-Corporate Affairs and Communications, SAB Miller India said, "I congratulate all teams for putting up a fabulous performance and contributing towards addressing the social issues India is challenged with. We at SABMiller India recognize the concern of increasing no of HIV/AIDS and drunken driving cases and have taken several initiatives to educate our workforce and our partners in this respect. Partnering with MDI has given us another leg to our existing initiatives like our Workplace Programme in partnership with International Labour Organization (ILO), truckers programme in partnership with State AIDS Control Societies and State NGOs. etc".

Committed to play a legitimate and positive role in partnership with governments, NGOs and the public health community in promoting responsible drinking and helping combat alcohol misuse and abuse, SABMiller launched an interactive portal – www.talkingalchohol.com. The portal encourages individuals to make an informed choice and drink responsibly. SABMiller India also partnered with Party Hard Drivers, an initiative to provide drivers to ensure people reach home safely, in Mumbai.

SABMiller India has also taken numerous initiatives in creating awareness about HIV/AIDs as part of it Corporate Social Responsibility. Some of the initiatives include: - Internal awareness programme for all employees through master trainers and peers in partnership with International Labour Organisation (ILO); regular blood donation, health and medical camps for the communities; interactions with People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV); supporting the local government through partnerships with State AIDS Control Societies, a special project HUMSAFAR targeting truckers, in partnership with State Governments and local NGOs.
