Haryana Breweries Ltd., SABMiller India`s biggest brewery in North India bagged the 'Best Brewery Award' at the just concluded alcobev trade conference INDSPIRIT 2010, organized by SAP Media, the publisher's of liquor magazine Ambrosia, at Hotel Intercontinental The Lalit, Mumbai . The Haryana brewery is one of the recently modernized breweries amongst the 9 others in India and is the best example of the international quality and hygiene standards, world class technology, innovation and sustainable development initiatives maintained by SABMiller in India. Recognizing that water and energy are the most significant parts of any manufacturing plant, SABMiller India has established a special team looking at the effectiveness of its initiatives very closely and mapping it on a constant basis.
Responding to the award, Sundeep Kumar, Director-Corporate Affairs and Communications, SABMiller India said, "We are proud of being recognized as 'Brewery of the Year' for our Haryana Brewery. We maintain international standards at all our breweries. Our quality standards are very stringent and in accordance with the global benchmarks. This award reinforces our commitment towards 'Sustainable Development'.
The Haryana brewery topped the chart across all parameters such as specific energy consumption, water consumption and extract loss.
Some of the initiatives taken by the brewery are: Mash Filtration, Flash Pasteurization, Sterile Can filling, Water efficient Bottle Washer, minimizing inlet COD by segregating waste streams, Yeast Dryers, etc. Its concerted efforts have helped reduce water usage by 63% from the 2007-08 (10.01HL/HL in 2007-08 to 3.68 HL/HL in 2010) and power usage reduction by 20.4% from 2008-09 (14.29 KWH/HL in 2008-09 to 11.37% in 2010).
HBL has a capacity of 1 Million HL and produces brands like Foster`s, Haywards 5000 and Royal Challenge.
