SABMiller India creates awareness through street play competition

Street play competition organized by SABMiller India on the theme of responsible drinking and creating awareness on HIV/AIDS at IIFT College
 
New Delhi, 17 Nov, 2013: Sunday morning saw enthusiastic theatre teams from management colleges around NCR coming together to participate in a street play competition organised by SABMiller India at Management Development Institute's annual festival 'Imperium 13'. The teams staged powerful acts on the theme of responsible drinking and creating awareness about HIV/AIDS, key sustainable development priorities for SABMiller India.

Teams from reputed management colleges and NGO's like Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for women (IGDTU), Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (USS IP), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Fore school of management, Management Development Insitute- Gurgaon (MDI), Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management and student NGO Humans Society. The performance was judged by ACP Vijay Mohan- Delhi Traffic Police and Praveen K. Hasija- Drama Tech. Two best performing teams Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for women and student NGO Humans Society were awarded a total prize money of Rs45,000 and the participants were given goodies from SABMiller India's responsible drinking campaign 'Respect the Road'- Don't drink and drive.

"Promoting responsible drinking and spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS are core sustainable development priorities for SABMiller India. We believe that street play is a strong medium to create awareness, reach out to masses and highlight these social issues. Besides the street play competition, SABMiller India also organized a quiz on responsible drinking and road safety for management students across India. The winning students got Flipkart coupons and other exciting goodies like T-shirts, caps etc. from the campaign. Piquor booth, an exciting self-photography experience, was installed inside the MDI campus for students to take a pledge to be responsible and follow traffic rules. A slogan contest from 'Blow the Whistle', an initiative by 'Respect the Road'- Don't drink and drive campaign was organised where students had to send their tweets # Blow the Whistle and messages on the initiative's facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/respecttheroad) about blowing whistle against people who break traffic rules. All the quizzes and contests received an overwhelming response from enthusiastic management students and # Blow the Whistle was trending all over social media.
